Welcome to the Resistencia Capoeira Group - Marlborough

All members must adhere to the following rules and regulations to ensure a safe, respectful, and effective training environment.

Compliance with these rules is crucial for maintaining the integrity of our practice and community.

1. Substance-Free Training

  • Rule: Attendance at training under the influence of alcohol or any intoxicating substance is strictly prohibited.

  • Purpose: This ensures the safety of all participants, as substances can impair coordination and judgment.

  • Examples:

- Do not consume alcohol or drugs before or during sessions.

- Members under the influence will be asked to sit out and can face a permanent ban for repeated offences.

2.- Uniform Policy

  • Rule: Members should wear the official Resistencia uniform to all classes, as well as other Capoeira t-shirts, plain white tops, and Abadas (Capoeira Pants).

  • Purpose: Promotes unity, tradition, respect and equality.

  • Examples:

- New students may be granted a grace period to acquire the uniform. (90 days)

- Special attire instructions may be given for demonstrations or special events: Group T-shirt, Abadas (all white), and Corda.

3. Respect and Etiquette

  • Rule: Members must show respect through punctuality, adherence to training drills, and support for fellow members.

  • Purpose: Fosters a respectful and supportive training environment.

  • Examples:

- Arrive 5-10 minutes before class. (If possible)

- Assist newcomers with foundational movements if needed.

4. Participation in External Training

  • Rule: Training with other Capoeira schools requires prior permission from our leader.

  • Purpose: Maintain the integrity of our training methods and align external influences with our values.

  • Examples:

- Seek approval before attending external workshops or events.

5. Membership and Participation in Group Events

  • Rule: Our group's official membership is confirmed at the annual Batizado and Troca de Cordas event.

  • Purpose: Recognizes progress and integrates new members.

  • Examples:

- Attend the annual Batizado to receive your Corda, participate in multiple workshops, and support other group members.

6. No Bullying or Disrespect

  • Rule: Bullying, discrimination, or disrespectful behaviour will not be tolerated.

  • Purpose: Ensures a positive and inclusive learning environment.

  • Examples:

- No teasing, name-calling, or mocking; respect differences in skill, age, gender, and background.

7. Respect for Instructors and Students

  • Rule: Respect must always be shown to instructors and peers.

  • Purpose: Honors the time and dedication of instructors and senior students.

  • Examples:

- Use proper titles (e.g., Mestre, Professor, instructor, Monitor) and follow instructions without challenge during training.

8. Hygiene and Cleanliness

  • Rule: Maintain personal hygiene and keep the training area clean.

  • Purpose: Prevents the spread of germs and ensures a pleasant training environment.

  • Examples:

- Wear clean attire and help tidy the training space.

9. Safety First

  • Rule: Prioritize safety during all training sessions and rodas.

  • Purpose: Prevents injuries and ensures safe practice.

  • Examples:

- Participate in warmups on time and report injuries immediately.

10. Commitment to Learning

  • Rule: Regular attendance and striving for improvement are essential.

  • Purpose: Facilitates progress and skill acquisition.

  • Examples:

- Set personal goals, learn from feedback, and regularly attend classes.

11. Authorization for Teaching

  • Rule: - Teaching requires authorization from Grão Mestre Bira.

- Before participating in any Capoeira presentations, Rodas, or training sessions outside our normal classes, permission from Monitor Wilson Robledo is needed.

  • Purpose: Ensures quality, reputation and appropriateness of instruction.

  • Examples:

- Obtain permission and meet rank requirements before leading classes.

- Teaching classes: Monitor, Blue and Green Cord / 7th rank and upwards.

- Assisting parts of classes: Graduado, Yellow Cord / 6th rank and upwards.

Importance of Adherence

- Safety: Prevents injuries by ensuring all are alert and prepared.

- Respect: Builds a positive atmosphere and strengthens bonds.

- Tradition: Honors our practices and the art form of Capoeira.

- Community: Each member contributes to a supportive environment.

- Health and Hygiene: Reduces risk of illness, ensuring effective training.

- Commitment: Regular practice is key to mastering Capoeira.

- Authorized Teaching: Maintains high standards of instruction.
